Family Movie Night: Big Hero 6

via Disney.com.my
We just came home from watching Big Hero 6 at the cinema....and I was really excited to watch this with the girls, and after 102 minutes, I kinda have mixed feelings towards Big Hero 6.

The girls were so excited while waiting for the hall to open. Thank God it's a neighbourhood cinema, so they can run all the want without getting lost in the crowd.  That's it girls, run now, sleep later. muahahaha
Gotta have a pic with Baymax. Family movie night attire: PJs and sweaters for the cold cinema.

Half the excitement from watching a movie at the cinema compared to at home is watching the new movie trailers coming out. I know, I know, I can watch trailers on YouTube but it's just different you know. So imagine my annoyance when we were early (for once!) to the cinema, and the trailers were already playing by the time we get to the cinema hall. .... and it was of the Madagascar's Penguins. *sad face. Bad start here.

So excited, I was taking photos of billboards on the way home from work
*as a passenger.
Fine. Let's just enjoy the movie then. Like all cartoons nowadays, Big Hero 6 hits it big for kids AND adults. But I personally feel adults and older kids have a better understanding on the humour presented in this movie. Baymax, the robot certainly is lovable and cute, especially before he got armours. But the movie itself...lacks the personality to engage. I want to love it, but I just feel... meh. So much meh on the end half of the movie (...except for Fred. Fred makes me laugh. I want to have a friend like Fred. Be my Fred!)

Visually though, stunning. No dissapointments there.

It felt quite draggy at times. Was that just me? Maybe it needed musical numbers like FROZEN! hehe but honestly...though as a mother of two girls, having Frozen on a loop on the Tv is the norm but I think I would prefer it than having Big Hero 6 on a loop.

So should you bring your kids to see Big Hero 6?

My girls in their PJs for Big Hero 6 movie night.
PP willing to pose, Bambam....not so much. Busy watching the movie already
If your kid, regardless of gender, like action cartoons. Maybe they would enjoy the movie.
Especially if you are parents to boys it would a different matter coz this movie have lots of actions! fights! karate chops! LASERS!

The two female role models for the girls; Honey Lemon and Go Go Tomago

It is also good for little girls to see bad a** female scientists/engineers/nerds as heros.

My kids, clearly got doesn't care enough about the movie and fell asleep halfway...just after Baymax started wearing an armour because he became not-so-cute anymore.

Not so cute Baymax with armour on.

....aaaaaaand personally i think because there were not enough sparkles and glitters. My girls are princesses. I have to deal with that.
They did like the fist bump scenes in the movie though..maybe because I do fist bumps with them. I foresee an evolution to our fist bumping!!!

Other than that, you have to consider one big factor about the movie.
It can be depressing and dark especially for younger kids. As I said...not enough sparkles and glitters. Lots of tears. sad sad moments.

**INCOMING! SPOILER ALERT!**

In Frozen, we see Anna and Elsa's parents being lost at sea, as a big wave crashes on top of their ship.... *sniff sniff I still get teary eyes when I watch that scene over and over again*.

Big Hero 6 is not just about a cute huggable marshmallow looking robot, it also deals with a lot of issues of loss and death. Like, a lot.
First, PP was asking about Hiro's parents. She asked if Hiro's brother is the dad, and when I said thats the brother, she asked again, where are the parents? What happened to them? Why did they die? Why do they live with their aunt? Then....

****BIG SPOILER ALERT, WARNING****
....Hiro's big brother died.  The questions came again. What happened to the brother? Why did he die? Why did he have to die? Why is fire dangerous? Did the fire kill him? Is he really dead? Why is he dead? ....... Yes. LOTS of questions which i had to answer as quietly and as short as possible, in the cinema. WHILE the movie was playing....DURING the sad scenes. Mummy is trying to get emotional here, you're a buzz killer PP with your loaded questions on death. :P

If PP was awake the other half of the movie, she would have asked a LOT more about loss and death...because there were more sad sad sad scenes. and kinda violent scene.

So when bringing your kids to watch this movie, have a game plan on how to answers all this beforehand. Or you would be wishing you could have just waited for the DVD to come out instead.

Still love Fred though.

The Birth of Baby PP

A very overdue post but better late than never, right right? Riighhht. Plus, need a post that is related to a certain video i promised some friends i will post up (i must have been high on post pregnancy hormones to give THAT promise!)

Flashback to 11-12 October 2009::
the day(s) Mummylicious went into the labour room and
Baby PP's arrival into this world

The Birth Plan ::

Normal birth and gas as pain reliever.

What happened ::

Induced at 40 weeks, non-stop contractions with only 3cm dilation, epidural  to save energy for the labour that was a loooong way to go. Epidural again after the first needle went through a vein or something. 10 hours after that, dilation was at 6cm. Baby PP in distress. Emergency C-Section performed. ..... that is why a birth plan is called, a plan. Things don't always go the way you want it to go.

Why? ::

My gynea, Dr Tang gave a suggestion that I were to induce my delivery. I was at my heaviest weight, a whooping total of 68KG! That's 20kg increase from my pre-pregnancy weight. Baby PP was at 40 weeks. Not exactly late but her estimated weight was at 3.9 kg at 38 weeks.

Combined with my weight and baby's weight, Dr Tang was not comfortable with the idea of this little petite girl delivering a huge baby. Plus, I've had some complications that were affecting me (not baby) before that. Lets just say they were bleeding down under eh? Nothing serious but very painful that walking, sitting and sleeping was near impossible.Dr Tang feared that it was because my body was struggling with the weight of the baby and more complications would arise if we were to wait.

Before Child (B.C)
11 OCTOBER 2009

A future to be mother must always prepare herself before a child comes into this world
In my case i prepared by

 doing my hair, have a manicure and pedicure and doing A FACIAL!
seriously, since i know when I was giving birth, these are such MUST DO activities before delivery.

After having one last dinner as just the two and half of us. We checked in into our 'hotel' room
or what we thought a couple of nights.

Post induce. Pre Epidural. Lots of walking around listening to other people giving birth until Daddylicious couldnt handle it anymore.

I, the demented penguin. Dancing help with the contraction pain!!! Daddylicious thinks its funny.

12 OCTOBER 2009
The pregnant one on the bed. The supportive spouse on the chair.

FACT: while having my non stop contractions, I gave Daddylicious a back massage because of his 'back pain'.
Seriously, sympathy pain is annoying. During pregnancy, I had the nausea, Daddylicious did the vomiting. Now I was having contractions, he was having severe back pain. siigghhh

The Drama ::
Post epidural. Finally manage to sleep around 5am. Woke up at 11am after hearing loud alarming beeps from the baby heart rate and contraction monitor.
Dr Tang, my gynea was called in and she had a look. I was monitored more frequently after that and while i was trying to calm myself by going on FACEBOOK!!!

1.00PM ::
alarming beeps came again and Dr Tang also came back in and said it was too risky to wait as Baby PP been in distress too many times.

1.30PM ::
I was being wheeled into the OT. Daddylicious was so worried and dare i say...in shock that he didn't know he was not to follow me into the OT for the emergency C-sec.

1.50pm ::
Baby PP came out in with a pop!
Dr Soraya, Baby PP's pead immediately brought her to my side. "Its really is a girl!" I said. Immediately checked her toes and fingers and gave her a kiss before Baby PP was whisked off to be weighted and cleaned.

All the while...i was trembling uncontrollably from the side effect of high dose of epidural that was given to me as soon as we entered the OT and my arms were lying spread out on the operating table. I could not touch my baby with my hands but I can only see her and hear her very loud but beautiful cries.

I just couldn't stop smiling and trying to twist my head to see Baby PP somewhere behind me.
Soon after, she was given back to me for a kiss byebye. So i kissed and kissed her before she was wheeled out to her own recovering session.

But not before Daddylicious had a minute with her once she was out of the OT doors. (And took that first photo). Daddylicious said he screwed up whatever he was supposed to read to her.
Sigh...emo daddy.

See the sudden peaks at the baby monitor graph....NOT good.

4.00PM ::
Finally at around 4PM i was out from the OT recovering room.
Finally...i saw Daddylicious nervously waiting for me in front of the OT.
But still...I could not see Baby PP. She was still in the recovering room to neutralise her body heat. Apparently, they must do this for 4 hours after a C-sec baby comes out.
...4 hours after giving birth to Baby PP, i still could not hold her.

6.00PM ::
After the longest of wait, Baby PP was wheeled in into the room. Tok Bah iqamah Baby PP again since Daddylicious admitted to screwing it up earlier. :P
and
FINALLY 4 hours after I gave birth to Baby PP, i held her in my arms. Counted her fingers and toes again. Looked at her face. Just...gazed at her. Until my mom asked me to give her milk.

Hearing Baby PP cry her (then) oh so sweet cry and holding her the first time.

Princess Peanut real name was let known  as
Danya Zafirah

12 October 2009
1:50 PM @ 3.31 kg
(I really had a hard time not to let people know her chosen name before birth :P )

It seems like it was yesterday she was given to us, now she is 13 months old.

Finally Eid Photos!

There were so many stories to tell about Eid with Baby PP. There's the story about her and the lost lambs and the story of her and cats. and the escaping maggosteen!

I  promise i will post about those...(once i figure out how to settle my video issues with youtube) among others. but for now, a post filled with the general happenings for the first couple of days of Eid.

*Most of the photos were taken with Canon 40D 50mm 1:4 lense. It was a special celebration so the big guns came out

Baby PP woke up to find Mummylicious went for Eid morning prayers.
Mummylicious came home to find her smiling at me while being bathe by her Aunty Wawa
and then wearing her diamond necklace she got from her 'Fairy-Godmothers'

Baju kurung for the day made specially by Daddylicious's mom, my MIL, Baby PP's grandmother, Tok Mi. Shoes to match Mummy's!

She got her first ang pow while having her breakfast! She was really curious on its content and the ang pow itself. ....except when Daddylicious gave one to her...but when Uncle Adri came and gave her the big money...she gladly took it! maybe because it was without the angpow package. hmmmm...

Official family photoshoot.
We really really tried everything to make her smile.

Then we resorted to just take photos like these.

 Milestone alert!
Baby PP at 11 months old finally learn how to move her legs to 'walk'.

Time to ask for forgiveness.
Baby PP does not want to shake anyones hands.
Only recently she is willing....if Mummy does it first :)

 Then we let her loose and she happilly played with herself and the main door's grille.

 My little baby's antics during raya.
From 'praying', sleeping at once after 2 minutes car drive,
going through everyones handbags,
eating mangosteen and of course...
raya cookies sessions. She does love her bread and cookies!

Why i don't have any beadings on my new baju kurung.
See what she is doing with one of my pre-pregnancy baju that i manage to fit into!
(just wanted to say that! muahaha)

 Tutu crazy during the second day.

With the Kelantan clan.

What happen when Mummy get bored waiting for people for photoshoot? this happen...

Baby PP with her great-grandparents and grandparents from Daddylicious side

With the Great-Grandmother, Tok Mek and her aunties. Yup..including those little girls. Aunties.

Mummylicious and Daddylicious private photoshoot.
Pretending we are single mingle la konon

Mummylicious and Daddylicious love our beloved Baby PP

Phew! That is finally done!
Weheeehehe can now focus on the birthday party planning posts

The Night Before Syawal

Still backtracking throughout Syawal-slash-Eid

The Night Before 1 Syawal.

As some of you are aware, i was busy busy making baju kurung for YummyliciousBaby
So hence, the seamstress and all her helpers...including me had to seam our own baju kurung couple of nights before Syawal
And of course Baby PP was there to supervise our work. Must be up to par to her standard!

Baby PP witnessing her first official Eid announcement!

 And then wanted to join in the Eid prayer after the announcement

....Still around..looked for Daddylicious

....Looked for Mummy and found Mummy.

Lighting pelita was eventful when Baby PP kept trying to touch the flame
and when a bug...dunno what bug...went into my kaftan.

Then there was the fireworks!
Let me tell you,
Baby PP was unperturbed at all by the loud bangs when the 100-das firework went off!
Thats my little girl!

Finally it was off to bed. But not before messing up Mummylicious's handbag and wallet....
Looking for duit raya?

Next up. the actual day of Syawal and etc
Look....i did not take more than a thousand photos and not putting them up!
If you dont like them photos...i suggest you go away. Pfftt..
