The Birth of Baby PP

A very overdue post but better late than never, right right? Riighhht. Plus, need a post that is related to a certain video i promised some friends i will post up (i must have been high on post pregnancy hormones to give THAT promise!)

Flashback to 11-12 October 2009::
the day(s) Mummylicious went into the labour room and
Baby PP's arrival into this world

The Birth Plan ::

Normal birth and gas as pain reliever.

What happened ::

Induced at 40 weeks, non-stop contractions with only 3cm dilation, epidural  to save energy for the labour that was a loooong way to go. Epidural again after the first needle went through a vein or something. 10 hours after that, dilation was at 6cm. Baby PP in distress. Emergency C-Section performed. ..... that is why a birth plan is called, a plan. Things don't always go the way you want it to go.

Why? ::

My gynea, Dr Tang gave a suggestion that I were to induce my delivery. I was at my heaviest weight, a whooping total of 68KG! That's 20kg increase from my pre-pregnancy weight. Baby PP was at 40 weeks. Not exactly late but her estimated weight was at 3.9 kg at 38 weeks.

Combined with my weight and baby's weight, Dr Tang was not comfortable with the idea of this little petite girl delivering a huge baby. Plus, I've had some complications that were affecting me (not baby) before that. Lets just say they were bleeding down under eh? Nothing serious but very painful that walking, sitting and sleeping was near impossible.Dr Tang feared that it was because my body was struggling with the weight of the baby and more complications would arise if we were to wait.

Before Child (B.C)
11 OCTOBER 2009

A future to be mother must always prepare herself before a child comes into this world
In my case i prepared by

 doing my hair, have a manicure and pedicure and doing A FACIAL!
seriously, since i know when I was giving birth, these are such MUST DO activities before delivery.

After having one last dinner as just the two and half of us. We checked in into our 'hotel' room
or what we thought a couple of nights.

Post induce. Pre Epidural. Lots of walking around listening to other people giving birth until Daddylicious couldnt handle it anymore.

I, the demented penguin. Dancing help with the contraction pain!!! Daddylicious thinks its funny.

12 OCTOBER 2009
The pregnant one on the bed. The supportive spouse on the chair.

FACT: while having my non stop contractions, I gave Daddylicious a back massage because of his 'back pain'.
Seriously, sympathy pain is annoying. During pregnancy, I had the nausea, Daddylicious did the vomiting. Now I was having contractions, he was having severe back pain. siigghhh

The Drama ::
Post epidural. Finally manage to sleep around 5am. Woke up at 11am after hearing loud alarming beeps from the baby heart rate and contraction monitor.
Dr Tang, my gynea was called in and she had a look. I was monitored more frequently after that and while i was trying to calm myself by going on FACEBOOK!!!

1.00PM ::
alarming beeps came again and Dr Tang also came back in and said it was too risky to wait as Baby PP been in distress too many times.

1.30PM ::
I was being wheeled into the OT. Daddylicious was so worried and dare i say...in shock that he didn't know he was not to follow me into the OT for the emergency C-sec.

1.50pm ::
Baby PP came out in with a pop!
Dr Soraya, Baby PP's pead immediately brought her to my side. "Its really is a girl!" I said. Immediately checked her toes and fingers and gave her a kiss before Baby PP was whisked off to be weighted and cleaned.

All the while...i was trembling uncontrollably from the side effect of high dose of epidural that was given to me as soon as we entered the OT and my arms were lying spread out on the operating table. I could not touch my baby with my hands but I can only see her and hear her very loud but beautiful cries.

I just couldn't stop smiling and trying to twist my head to see Baby PP somewhere behind me.
Soon after, she was given back to me for a kiss byebye. So i kissed and kissed her before she was wheeled out to her own recovering session.

But not before Daddylicious had a minute with her once she was out of the OT doors. (And took that first photo). Daddylicious said he screwed up whatever he was supposed to read to her.
Sigh...emo daddy.

See the sudden peaks at the baby monitor graph....NOT good.

4.00PM ::
Finally at around 4PM i was out from the OT recovering room.
Finally...i saw Daddylicious nervously waiting for me in front of the OT.
But still...I could not see Baby PP. She was still in the recovering room to neutralise her body heat. Apparently, they must do this for 4 hours after a C-sec baby comes out.
...4 hours after giving birth to Baby PP, i still could not hold her.

6.00PM ::
After the longest of wait, Baby PP was wheeled in into the room. Tok Bah iqamah Baby PP again since Daddylicious admitted to screwing it up earlier. :P
and
FINALLY 4 hours after I gave birth to Baby PP, i held her in my arms. Counted her fingers and toes again. Looked at her face. Just...gazed at her. Until my mom asked me to give her milk.

Hearing Baby PP cry her (then) oh so sweet cry and holding her the first time.

Princess Peanut real name was let known  as
Danya Zafirah

12 October 2009

It seems like it was yesterday she was given to us, now she is 13 months old.

Baby Rolling, Shuffling and Creeping and the 1st horror

Baby and rolling around.

Baby PP is approximately 7 months and 1 week old now and confirmed, she is not a rolling around baby. No rolly-polly actions for baby PP, nope. no siree. She roll-over. Yes. from her back to tummy..from tummy to back. Very often. but she always remained in the same spot and she rarely does it. Too rare that it's hard to remember when she started doing it often. But again. same spot. back and forth.
Amongst the rare times she self-roll. To peek at her Mummy and Daddy.

Was I as a worrywart mother worried? of course! i just said i'm a worrywart paranoid always think of the worst that could happen person. As a mother? Double, triple...fine..quadtriple that.

Babies normally starts rolling around at 2 to 6 months. (See useful links below for reading marterials) That's what most caregivers would attest to. But then some babies are not bothered with rolling around.
"The age when babies roll over, sit up, creep, stand up, or walk is more variable than the age when they get control of their head or arms. A lot depends on temperament and weight. A wiry, energetic baby is in a great rush to get moving. A plump, placid one may be willing to wait until later." Dr Spock.
Guess PP is a too plump and placid baby eh Dr Spock?

We tried everything to get her to roll. First was to let her loads of belly time. Everyday for at least an hour since birth. The loads of helping hand to help her roll to encourage her to do herself.  Putting toys near her. Rattles. Fav soft toys. new shiny things. Diamonds and pearls. Loads.. of everything actually.

But nothing works...except to give her, her own time. ...and to let her be angry :P

Trying....trying....gave up on rolling video. She gave up for a looong time after that.
This was at 4 months and 2 week.

A week after that!
yay, a captured rare among the first 3 self roll. Near 4 Months and 3 weeks?
Too tired to roll again? Or too lazy? Sad face hoping for help
Once. then nothing. then once more.
Only when she is angry.

But me, the worrywart, was still worried even after PP's Pead's saw her at her 5 months and 6 months appointment and told me she is developing normally. Baby PP can lift her head up more than 45 degree, her neck is strong, would roll with a little bit of hand...plus...whenever we lift her using only her hands, she would immediately straighten her legs and stand up! from 4 months on! She also started to "butt shuffling" (creeping on her back and bottom using hands and legs) in her sleep at around 4 months too. We would find her in many positions when she wakes up around here.

 In Phuket, we discovered she is starting to move butt shuffling while sleeping.
Put her in the middle. She ends somewhere at the side
The beginning of the cot being too big.
Around late 3 months to 4 month

So we knew, somewhere deep inside me, she is ok. She just doesn't see the point of rolling around. "Why should i? i just cry and someone is bound to pick me up!" Too lazy. (I wonder where she gets that from? *roll eyes)

More butt shuffling and creeping begins.

I finally stopped worrying...very recently when though she doesn't roll around to get to Point A to Point B. Baby PP does indeed roll-over once or twice when she wants to and then she started to creep backward, forward...sideways. And indeed, more butt shuffling. That came around 6 months plus.

Baby PP chasing a ball. This was last week. We realise she have started doing some creeping around 6 months and 3 weeks.

"Hallo! Hug me!"

"Just having my post lunch drink. Dont need help"

"I don't know how i ended up here from having a drink. Hmmmm was it a combination of creeping, rolling over once or twice (cause that is all i care to do) and butt shuffling? Hmmm"

"I think I'm stuck. or maybe I'm too lazy to creep anymore but i want my toys!"
"I know, i drag my toys and my playmat towards me!"

Yesterday, was the horror amongst all horror!!!!

We put baby PP at one end of our king sized bed  (where Daddylicious was) as we were busy packing things for our weekend trip to the in-laws. She scooted on her back, made her way backward to the other end (where I was, packing baby clothes).

Suddenly, when she was 2 feet away from the edge, Baby PP made a MAJOR backward launch  with her legs that made her head and first half of her tiny body went south, towards the hard marble floor! I was...and still am in horror over what could have happened.

Gravity is scary and I am very thankful, at THAT moment of self-launch, I was by that side of the bed and not in baby PP's closet looking for her clothes just a minute before. And I am very thankful i somehow saw my little baby going South instead of maintaining her Westward direction at the corner of my eye. Thankful my reflexes came into action. A split second decision and action. Thankful that i managed to hold down her sliding, SLIDING chubby thighs and quickly lifted her up.

OOhhhh i gave Daddylicious an earful after that.
"WHY DIDN'T YOU CREATE A BARRIER?!" "A FORTRESS!" "YOU KNOW SHE'S MOVING EVERYWHERE NOWADAYS!" "SHE COULD HAVE FALLEN HEAD FIRST! HEAD FIRST!!!!".
When the shouting was over...i know it wasn't completely his fault. It was my fault too for not anticipating it. For assuming Daddylicious had added a pillow at the end. And that she is safe. Very safe. I was there. Thank God i was there.
"It is amazing how fast such a baby can reach the edge, and many do fall from an adult bed to the floor, which makes a parent feel very guilty. " Dr Spock
Thanks Dr Spock. I think even a near fall makes a parent VERY guilty.

Nope. No video of that incident. Nor photos. Crazy ah?! But I have a photo from today wearing her new dress :)

"I'm so prettyyyy, so so pretty!"

No falling off the bed for you little missy. Not yet anyway. Lets wait until the crawling starts and Mummylicious can teach you how to get down from the bed safely.

And after the incident while we packed to stay over at the inlaws, we know we had to be EXTRA vigilant with Baby PP on the queen sized bed at the inlaws.

How Baby PP is protected from all sides.
Daddylicious sleeping vertically. Mummylicious horizontally.
Baby PP. Safe.

Pregnancy signs and symptoms, test and denial

Image from Going2B.com

Let's start from the beginning.

When: 21 Feb 2009, Saturday
Where: Sunway Pyramid (a huggeeeee shopping mall in suburban Petaling Jaya, Malaysia)

Daddylicious was away for golf. I was in NEED for a manicure treatment. It was, a beauty emergency. As my usual manicure place require appointments and they are in Bangsar (way further away than Sunway), I decided to head to Sunway to search for a manicure place. Now, previously Sunway was a decent shopping mall. A size of 3 football fields with 4 floors but it was amongst my first time there after the renovation. Now, it tripled the old size! with many many wings and many many parking entrances.

To say it simply, i was an ant trapped in Victoria Beckham's Birkin's collection looking for an unknown unnamed manicure place. As i was wandering my way through the heavy weekend crowd, looking for this elusive shop, i got lost. often in the opposite wing where i was supposed to be in, according to Sunway Pyramid's confusing gigantic map placed at the END/START of each wing. I went around the shopping mall twice. covering 3 floors. i started to sweat. i started to feel flustered. and hot. and LOST. and angry. angry at Sunway. angry at my husband (Daddylicious) for playing golf that day. angry at this couple of teenagers holding hands! and then, in the crowded weekend in the middle of the wing, i started to cry.

CRY! alone! in the middle of everything. and i said to myself
"oh F*ck." (the irony, i know)
So i ran to the nearest public bathroom and shut myself in a cubicle all the time asking myself,
"why the hell are you crying?!!"
"Need to clear head. need to calm self. need to find that magic manicure place"
Lo and behold i found A Cut's Above even though it wasnt what i was looking for. The same franchise in Bangsar i usually do my hair and manicure. As i was being calmed by one set of hands giving me a shampoo and another set of hands lovingly stroking my fingers, i begin to have my suspicion.

As soon as i arrive home. I Googled 'Pregnancy symptoms' and 'Am I Pregnant?' and 'How to know you're pregnant' 'and begin ticking, or in my case doubting the boxes. The questions are same for every site. So let's borrow this list from stages-in-pregnancy.com

Breast changes. Blue veins running across the breast - breast tenderness - darkening of the areolas.
-eeeh. no. still normally dark areolas. how much darker can it go? black?

Cramps
. A result of the expanding uterus at around the time the menstrual period is due.
-eeehh..nope. nothing.

Fatigue. Hormones run rampant during pregnancy and the side effect is extreme fatigue, especially for a first time mom.
-hmm maybe. I've always been lazy but extreme laziness to wake up in the morning have kicked in recently. Maybe i'm just don't want to go to work? not that i am known to be a morning person anyhow. hmmm...maybe. half tick. That word "hormones" might be it. But then again. I am a woman...with hormones. not balanced hormones.

Food cravings or aversions. Sometimes those funny little food cravings or aversions will appear right away.
-ai nope.

Frequent urination.
This occurs during the first trimester and the last trimester. Early on it is due to the swelling of the uterus over the bladder. As the baby and uterus grows it will lift off the bladder giving some relief during the 2nd trimester.
-what kind of question is this? i drink a lot! its hot here. drink=urinate. nothing new.

High basal body temperature.
If you chart your temperature - it will continue staying in the high range because of the progesterone running through your body. Sometimes on a fertility chart you may even see a third level of hi
gh temperatures called "triphasic". This is a possible indication of implantation taking place. This is among the first month pregnancy symtpoms.
-huh? not that i understand but lets half-tick based on Sunway shopping mall marathon before.

Implantation spotting.
This can occur anywhere from 3 to 12 days post ovulation. This sometimes happens when the fertilized egg burrows into the uterine lining
-hmm nope

Morning sickness. The effects of the pregnancy hormones can cause morning sickness with or without vomiting even before you know you are pregnant.
-the most common. but NOPE!

So i scored 1/8. Tiredness that can be mistaken as laziness. and one word about 'hormones' and increased body temp that can be questioned by my head exploding while looking for that elusive shop. That.did.NOT.help. wheres the "YOU WILL SUDDENLY CRY FOR NO REASONS AT ALL IN A SHOPPING MALL!" ????. Yeah. Fantastic.

I even failed at another list which state missed period. but only for those whose period comes regularly. Mine doesn't. So i fail.

It was still in the 'maybe-im-just-being-paranoid' stage.

My reasonings why i can't be pregnant:

I only stopped The Pills late December 2008. That's less than 2 months ago. I'm not the healthiest person. I was only 46kg. hardly the optimum weight to get pregnant. My periods were irregular before The Pills so its not meant to be regular after The Pills. Can't .be .pregnant. We're not trying! just leave it to Fate. to God.

When: 22 Feb 2009, Sunday morning.
Where: home

Extreme laziness/fatique sets in. but somehow manage to ask hubby to go to pharmacy and get me a pregnancy kit. his response? a blank stare. so in all my non-patience had to shout,

"Go.Buy.Pregnancy.Kit!NOW!"
After i peed on a stick, waited the longest 2 minutes i have ever endured, my life turned upside down.

Just for those who never peed on this particular set of stick. We used a ClearBlue Pregnancy Test kit. You are supposed to wait 2 minutes (3-5 minutes to be sure) or until the line in the second window appears in 2 minutes. We saw it clear as day less than a minute. and we waited 10 minutes to look again just to be extra extra sure. There were questions of course as we anxiously looked at the blardy stick even though its clearly evident it's positive.
"is the line clear?" "is that the line?" "don't you think its faint?" "it's not that clear, right?" "the line is faint! what does that mean?" "is this thing accurate????"
It is accurate. We have our proof right beside us now.

The 2 blue lines showing a cross appeared.

The video of my reaction.
I was obviously in shock. and nearly in tear
s. Except at that time. i wasn't sure whether it was of joy or fear.

I.couldn't.be.pregnant.
Me? Pregnant?

When: 23 Feb 2009, Monday morning.
Where: Dr Pearl's clinic

In the doctor's office, the 2 blue lines appeared again.
